OpenSourceAndOtherToolsForXpUnderDotNet
OpenSpace, XP Agile Universe 2004, Calgary
Of course, XP and Agile are about people, rather than tools. But good tools are people-enablers. Many of the tools used in agile development are open source. In the world of .NET development, there seem to be fewer choices, but the tools exist and more are coming into existence.
One reason for this is probably the relative newness of .NET, but another - at least in my opinion - seems to be that authors of open source tools are looked at somewhat askance by both Microsoft and the broader open source community. One way we can deal with this is by coming together as a group - tool authors and tool users - to define what we have, what we need, what issues there are and ways that we can resolve them.
As a first attempt at this, I held a BOF at XP2004. We put together a partial list of tools, but didn't get as much done as I had hoped. This open space session at XPAU 2004 is an attempt to take what was learned at the bof and move beyond it. Since I organized both sessions and was the only common attendee, I am responsible if anything got lost from the initial BOF - but this is a wiki, so if you see anything like that, please take responsibility for fixing it. Note: With so many things going on here at XPAU, I have only left placeholders. I'll fill in what I have on my index cards when I return home. But don't wait for me! Edit away! Charlie
