Discussion summary

* A discussion on a definition of business value.
* Brain storming session which found a NumberOfDefinitions and examples of GoodAndBadBusinessValue statements.
* It was agreed that all the aspects of business value affect each other in a complex system. Determining business value is a difficult task.
* Examples were given where projects run to create value have resulted in value being destroyed because all of the effects were not considered, or could not be anticipated.
* It was suggested that business value could be used to build momentum by the business that could be transferred to the software development team.
* The definition of business value changes based on an individual stakeholders perspective. Therefore it is important to choose the stakeholder carefully. The executives of the organisation should be the correct stakeholder to define business value.
* Business should be aligned with the Vision and Strategy of the Organisation.
